Before and after every game, every player puts their hand in.

"We're out here to HAVE FUN." Because joy is the point. Not the scoreboard. Not the scholarship. Not the ranking. We've seen enough crazy at sporting events. Fun is the antidote. Fun is why we play music during the game. Fun is why we have a dot race. Fun is why the cheerleaders in the stands cheer for every player — not just their kid. Fun is why catching a foul ball gives the batter another pitch. Fun is not a consolation prize. Fun is the whole game.
"Same team. ONE TEAM." Because regardless of ideology, gender, skill, age, background, or zip code — we are all part of the same human collective. No bullying. No belittling. No othering. No enemies. Just humans on a baseball field remembering what we have in common is greater than what divides us. One team. Always.
"Build up. ALL UP." Because we don't know what someone carried onto this field tonight. Maybe they lost their job this week. Maybe their marriage is falling apart. Maybe they just need one person to look them in the eye and tell them things are going to be OK. That person might be you. That moment might be tonight. Build up doesn't stay on the baseball field. Our Origin Story

Through the years of coaching baseball and running camps in the summer, 5-Pitch Plucky® was a father-son collaboration.
5-Pitch Plucky® - more baseball for more people
This reimagined game of baseball was developed by Coach D. and his son, Alex
In early 2019, a youth baseball coach in Dallas, Texas, had a game-changing idea designed that radically altered how kids experienced the game. Coach D., frustrated by seeing players leave the sport because it was too slow, too intimidating, or simply not fun, wanted to keep kids in the game. The idea was sparked when he borrowed a pitching machine from the local rec league. The pitching machine ensured that every pitch was hittable, which kept the game moving and put the focus back on learning how to play the game - instead of a merry-go-round of stolen bases from errors.
On March 1, 2019, Coach D. hosted the very first 3-team game of what was then called the "5-Pitch Challenge." The format was simple yet groundbreaking: players had five pitches to put the ball in play and there was no warm up between innings so the game moved quickly. Among the players that day was his 11-year-old son, Alex. The kids had a blast because for the first time they felt like they were actually playing baseball. For the first time in a long time, the game felt alive. Now, there was a chance that every pitch would be put into play, energizing the batter as well as the defense. Every player was engaged from start to finish.
After the game, during the drive home, Coach D. turned to Alex and asked, “What did you think?” Alex, already invested in the new format, offered thoughtful feedback. Game after game, their conversations continued, with Alex suggesting tweaks to improve the pace, keep everyone involved, and make competition friendly yet exciting. Their collaboration became the heart of the movement. The rules evolved with every suggestion, fine-tuning the balance between skill, fun, and fairness.
Over time, traditional baseball rules gave way to small, thoughtful adjustments designed to give everyone a chance to play. Age, gender, size, or skill level no longer dictated who could participate or succeed. As more players joined in, their parents wanted to play as well, so the game continued to evolve.
What began with a borrowed pitching machine and a desire for more action was soon renamed 5-Pitch Plucky®. The result was a version of baseball that everyone could enjoy, from first-timers to seasoned athletes.
In the Fall of 2024, Spring Valley Athletic Assocation (SVAA) offered two leagues: one for 4-5th grade and another for 6-8th grade ballplayers. When parents were surveyed after the season about what they thought of this new approach, they consistently said they, "loved the camaraderie of 5-Pitch Plucky®" Now, we use the term "camaraderie" to denote a group of players. Instead of relying on fixed rosters, the randomized teams create a relaxed atmosphere that promotes personal growth instead of cut-throat competition.
Parents quickly saw the transformation of their ballplayers over the course of the season. Their comments varied from "you've reignited their interest in playing baseball" and "his confidence level is so much higher" and "he looks forward to being with his friends each week" and "he wouldn't be playing if it wasn't for 5-Pitch Plucky." proving that 5-Pitch Plucky® is a game-changer.
The other thing parents wanted to do? They wanted to play because they saw their kids having so much fun. Now, at the end of each season, we invite the parents to play the final inning of the final game. They have a blast. So much so, that now we offer adult camaraderies as well.
A lot has changed since we first started in 2019 and we'll continue to improve 5-PItch Plucky® each time we step out onto the diamond. What a great game it is! It's truly a game changer in so many ways.
